There is no better way of learning new stuff than by interacting with it. This interactive museum displays the long history of farming and ranching in the State of New Mexico.

 

Painted water tanks

Water tanks can look boring and unattractive, but Tony Pennock took care of several of them in Las Cruces. He painted them with various murals that now everyone can admire. One of these is found at the crossroads between Triviz Drive and Griggs Avenue.

 

Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

With a peaceful atmosphere, this cathedral can be a good place to relax and think things over, if this is what you need. Admiring the cathedral’s architecture is another reason to come here, as the style used is the contemporary southwestern one.

 

A Quest for Knowledge

A Quest for Knowledge is a steel and granite statue found North of Zuhl Library. The statue is 20 feet wide and its creator is Federico Armijo, who is an Albuquerque native.

 

The New Mexico State University Music Center Recital Hall

This recital hall is home of Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dr. Lonnie Klein. Bill McGlaughlin’s Remembering Icarus is the show that got most attention for this orchestra.

 

The New Mexico State University Arthropod Museum

If you’re not scared of spiders and you actually like them, you should probably stop by this museum. The specimens here are used for research and teaching purposes, not only locally but globally as well.

 

Meerscheidt Recreation Center

If you’re interested in exercising and various physical activities come at this center on the last Sunday of each month for an event involving this type of pastime. This is Ciclovia, an event originating in Colombia.

 

Southern New Mexico State Fair

This fair takes place in October, on its first week, on the fairgrounds west of Las Cruces. The fair’s main purpose is to promote traditional agriculture to the youth in 6 surrounding counties. You get to witness the largest junior livestock show in the state, an event in its own right.

 

Mesilla Valley Mall

Come here in October for the annual pumpkin harvest. This event lasts for the whole month, therefore you have plenty of time to make it to the event. Perhaps the most interesting event happens on Halloween, when zombies parade through the mall. This event if followed by the Day of the Dead, a celebration of Mexican origins.

 

Branigan Cultural Center

This is where you get to learn more about the history of the area through pictures, paintings and sculptures. Pay attention to the building as well, as it is on the list of the National Register of Historic Places from around the country.
