Hillsboro

Hillsboro is probably known for Silicon Forest, an area where a cluster of high tech companies have their headquarters. Let’s see some other places of interest in this city as there are several registered historic locations.

 

Old Scotch Church

This church is also called Tualatin Plains Presbyterian Church and it was built back in 1873. There is even a cemetery next to it, where former church members and pioneers are buried.

 

Venetian Theatre

This place used to be known as the Town Theatre. Nowadays, the location serves as a restaurant, performing art venue, and as a theater. Back in 1888 when it was first opened, the building used to be a bank. Its Italianate style of architecture is another attraction point here.

 

Imbrie Farm

This farm dates back to the first half of the 19th century, and visitors can see the house, a shed and the eight sided barn. Other points of attractions include the black walnut and English chestnut trees that have been growing on the property for more than 130 years.

 

Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals

This museum opened in 1997, however its exhibits date back to 1930s. The exhibits used to belong to the museum’s founders. This earth museum is housed in a ranch style home and it own more than 20,000 different types of stones, fossils, petrified wood, and even meteorites.

 

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve

Those who want to feel closer to nature can have a great time in this preserve as they’ll have a chance of seeing many species of plants and animals. Bird watching is one of the most popular activities in this 635-acre wetland.

 

Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center

This recreational center has both indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, a weight room. The center first opened in 1954 and it slowly expanded to the configuration locals know nowadays. Having fun here is a given.

 

Orenco Station

While this place might be an attraction in itself, most locals come here for the farmers market taking place every Sunday during the warmer months of the year. Another farmers market takes place downtown on Saturdays.

 

The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club

This golf club stands out with its two 18 hole courses, its own wine brand and the fact that the course change from being public or private on a regular basis. The club first opened in 1997 and at first, memberships cost $15,000 per person. The restaurant found on the grounds of the club is also worth checking out.

 

Washington County Museum

History lovers might learn more by visiting a museum dedicated to this subject. Opened in 1975, the purpose of the museum is to showcase and preserve the history of the area. The current location of the museum is not its original one, and this is also an interesting fact about the place.

Locals go in this park for several types of activities, such as hiking, riding horses, camping, and more. Camping can be done in cabins, tents and even in RVs.
